The Krewe of Nyx will not be allowed to parade this summer as planned.

"I cannot support the addition of a summer parade," New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell said in a state issued late Monday night.

She says the NOPD is not prepared for the additional demands the parade would create during Hurricane season.

"It is not something our NOPD leadership is comfortable with," the mayor said. "Their request has been denied."

Here is the full statement...

  • “While I have the utmost respect for what Nyx has achieved as an all-women’s Carnival krewe, and I applaud them for their commitment to our children and our community —unfortunately I cannot support the addition of a summer parade,” said Mayor Cantrell. “Their proposed second parade places demands on our public safety resources in the middle of hurricane season, and it is not something our NOPD leadership is comfortable with. Their request has been denied, and the event will not proceed.”

Nyx planned a parade in July to include decorated beach shovels as a signature throw.

Other summer parades currently include this weekend's Pride Parade and the Southern Decadence parade during Labor Day weekend.
