Cops say a 12-year-old boy shot his mother in the head, and they don't think it was an accident.
"The NOPD has arrested a 12-year-old juvenile male in connection with an attempted homicide," according to a news release. "The victim was transported to a local hospital, where she remains in critical condition."
Police say they got the call Wednesday to the 1400 block of South Roman Street.
"EMS discovered the female had suffered a gunshot wound to the head while inside of her residence."
Investigators say they found the gun in her son's room.
"A search warrant of the residence yielded a semi-automatic firearm in the bedroom of the son, along with a single spent casing."
They say the victim’s 12-year-old-son and 2-year-old daughter were the only people in the house when the victim was shot. "Based on the investigation, an arrest warrant was obtained for the juvenile male for the charge of attempted second degree murder. The juvenile was booked without incident."
