City council members take up new Mardi Gras ordinance at council meeting

MD ordinance
Kenny Kuhn reporting.

New Orleans city council members met Thursday, for the first time since a "ransomware" cyber attack crippled certain government computers. They were suppose to have their first meeting of the year, last week.

The council took up discussions on several proposed ordinances and deferred an ordinance which could affect Mardi Gras krewes.

Councilman Banks explained the Mardi Gras ordinance will also restrict parades to no more than 12 units. This includes floats, marching bands, walking clubs and dance troupes. Each float must be separated by no more than one of either unit that is not a float. It will also address safety concerns over the amount of litter discarded by float riders during the parade.
