A special meeting is scheduled for 10am at City Hall to hear from a community group and the public about the recent property assessments. The community group Together New Orleans will present their findings on the impacts of the assessment and the spike in property taxes will have on homeowners.
TNO will also present the results of an analysis of the process where they will call into question whether it lived up to the standard of being fair, accurate and impartial. TNO states "It is of the utmost importance that the assessment process has been conducted in a way that is fair, accurate and impartial. Our analysis has found, unfortunately, that the provisional assessment rolls fall far short."
In a Sunday press release, Council President and Committee Chair Helena Moreno stated, "Many citizens who we've talked to are incredibly distraught and concerned over their latest assessments. They are searching for answers and need help."
The rules will be suspended to add this presentation to the top of Monday's meeting agenda.
