After Endymion, garbage from parade catches fire inside dump truck

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell is calling on parade goers not to dump hot coals along the parade route.

It comes after a dump truck loaded with parade trash burst into flames.


The sanitation department had to dump the load to keep it destroying the vehicle, and the New Orleans Fire Department came to put out the flames.

A fire occurred Saturday evening in the truck of a Dept of Sanitation contractor as crews worked to remove debris after the Endymion parade. The load had to be dumped at 5614 N. Claiborne Avenue near Caffin Avenue, @NOLAFireDept responded to extinguish the fire. pic.twitter.com/Iujb9wz5pZ

"The City of New Orleans reminds residents and visitors participating in Carnival parades to exercise extreme caution when managing any hot charcoals or combustible materials on the public rights of way," the city said in a statement delivered via text and social media.
