Search for missing boater ends with recovery of body

The U.S. Coast Guard has recovered the body of a man believed to be a missing boater.  

Using special shallow draft boat, crews from the New Orleans Coast Guard station found a body matching the description of Kevin Lege.  

Lege had been reported overdue early Monday morning, prompting the search by the Coast Guard.  

The body was found in the waters near LaFitte, Louisiana.  

"We extend our sincere condolences to Mr. Lege's family, friends and loved one during this tragic time" said Jeoffrey Nielsen, from Coast Guard Sector New Orleans Command Center. 

Coast Guard Watchstanders received a report at 1:20 a.m. of an overdue vessel with one person aboard who was scheduled to return Sunday evening.

The vessel was located Monday morning on the northwest bank of The Pen with no one aboard.

Numerous resources including the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries  were involved in the search.  The Coast Guard itself scrambled a helicopter and special purpose water craft for the search and recovery operation.
