Coast Guard searching for woman struck by boat in Lake Pontchartrain

Authorities are searching Lake Pontchartrain for a woman hit by a boat while swimming at Northshore Beach.

The Coast Guard, Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office are all assisting in the search.

According to the LDWF, a woman was swimming in the water about 5:30 p.m. Thursday when she was hit by a boat and has not been seen since. The incident .was witnessed by several people in the area.

The beach was closed and roped off by police.

LDWF says the operator of the boat has been interviewed by authorities. It's believed to have been an accident and no charges have been filed. 

A dive team was called to the scene to use sonar equipment to help with the search before calling it off for the night

The search will resume Friday morning.
