Confederate statues could be state property soon?

The Confederate statues, taken down by then Mayor Mitch Landrieu, could soon be making a comeback, but not at their previous locations.

Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser has been in negotiations on a deal to let the state assume control and move them out of a city yard where they've been locked up and out of public view.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell seems to be warming up to the idea along with a team of Louisiana Historians.

"I have no firm commitment but I do believe that we will get possession at some point in time," Nungesser said.

Right now Nungesser is unsure about a new location for the controversial statues, but he says it should be a place of historic significance and in public view.

As for expenses?

"The cost of putting them up or putting them in a facility we would raise funds to do that and not use any tax money," said Nungesser.

Nungesser says he hopes a resolution is near.
