As new hotels and apartment buildings go up seemingly all over New Orleans, the construction picture for the rest of the state is greatly different.
Year-over-year, Louisiana lost 12,300 construction jobs according to a study from the Associated General Contractors of America. That represents an eight percent drop. AGC reports 18-hundred jobs were lost last month.
By contrast, West Virginia leads the nation adding 11-hundred jobs in June and 81-hundred jobs over the year--a 19.8% growth in numbers. Wyoming is second, Arizona is third.

Other states with large job losses include Massachusetts (-3,400 jobs, -2.1 percent), Maryland (-2,200 jobs, -1.4 percent), Connecticut (-1,000 jobs, -1.7 percent) and Montana (-800 jobs, -2.8 percent). Other states with a substantial percentage decline include Montana, Vermont (-2.7 percent, -400 jobs), Massachusetts, Connecticut and Maryland.
