A controversial issue in the Bywater development which includes subsidized units for low income renters.

Neighbors First for Bywater oppose development of those subsidized units for low income renters at 4100 Royal Street, but the Greater New Orleans Fair Action Housing Center is questioning those motives of the group.

There will always be varying views about real estate development, particularly when it is in a community that is a historic community," said real estate analyst Wade Ragas.  "Is it being built to the best interest to all of the different parties."

Ragas says it is usually resolved by a vote on the council and he says it is very important on the position taken by the council person of that particular location which in this case is councilwoman Kristin Gisleson Palmer.

"The planning commission is there to help take care of these sorts of issues and it can go all the way to a vote of the council," Ragas noted.

The New Orlcans City Council plans to take up the issue of the Bywater development at today's meeting.
