Getting around part of the warehouse district this week isn't going to be easy. Convention Center Boulevard -- in the middle of a $75 million redesign -- is closed from Julia Street to the lake-bound expressway through the end of Sunday.
Convention center boulevard is being transformed to include a linear park that runs from Poydras St. to the end of the Convention Center just upriver from the bridge.
"We're taking half of the boulevard and converting it to a really nice park that's going to have water features and public art and lots of gathering places and lots of great green spaces," said Tim Hemphill , Vice President of Sales and Marketing with the Convention Center.
Entergy has to relocate their utility poles as part of that work
"Those have to be moved, and in order to do that, they have to shut down the boulevard to keep the environment safe for everyone," said Hemphill. "There will not be any power outage, though. I want to make sure your listeners know that. Entergy is determined to do that in the way they're approaching this."
The transformation still has more than a year to go before it is complete.
