
Gretna Police say they seized nearly 350 pounds of marijuana and arrested three suspects.
The investigation centered around a shipping container investigators say was packed with $1.2 million worth of pot at a business in Old Jefferson.
A multi-agency taskforce tracked some of the drugs to a home in Harvey. In all detectives say they recovered 345 pounds of marijuana.
The Times Picayune, The New Orleans Advocate reports the Major Crimes Task Force got a tip that the container was headed to a business on Shrewsbury Road in Old Jefferson from California.
The suspects are 53-year-old Charles Angell, 50-year-old Theresa Beasley and 41-year-old Walter Fea face charges including possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute.
The task force found the container and a drug-sniffing K9 confirmed the drugs were inside.
Instead of taking the drugs into evidence, they watched to see who came to get the marijuana.
Gretna Police Chief Arthur Lawson tells the paper they saw one of the suspects arrive in a van and load more than 300 bags of pot.
They detained Fea and say as they were questioning him, he received directions to deliver the drugs to a shopping center on Lapalco Boulevard in Marrero.
Cops took the van to the parking lot and waited until additional suspects arrived.
