A New Orleans woman faces a list of charges after an early morning police chase that began in Gretna and ended in New Orleans East.
Gretna Police say around 4:00 this morning, officers were sent to investigate gunshots in the area of Adams and Weidman Streets. They encountered a vehicle leaving the area and attempted to stop it. That's when police say the driver took off.
The chase proceeded to the Westbank Expressway, where police say the driver tossed a gun from the vehicle. It then crossed the Crescent City Connection into New Orleans, into New Orleans East. Police say the vehicle stopped and let three small children out into the dark, then fled again, finally coming to a stop near Means Ave. where the driver fled on foot.
With the help of a K9, police found and arrested 44-year-old Sandreaka Dixon Antoine. Police say the three children who got out of the car are safe and with relatives.
Police say they recovered the gun thrown from the vehicle, a .40 caliber Glock pistol. According to their investigation, they believe Antoine attempted to shoot the lock off of Dale's Towing in Gretna in an attempt to break in to the business.
Antoine was booked on charges of child desertion, illegal discharge of a firearm, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, aggravated flight, resisting arrest, attempted burglary, criminal damage to property, falsifying public records by initially using her sister's name, and outstanding warrants from Jefferson Parish.
