Officials say the man arrested after a chase through Metairie and Kenner was wanted for holding up customers leaving banks.
"Sheriff Joseph Lopinto announces the arrest of 19-year-old Jumichael Navarre of New Orleans," Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Glen Boyd said in a news release.
The arrest came on Sunday.
"Deputies from the First District spotted a vehicle fitting the description of the suspect vehicle in the previous armed robberies around 4:00 pm," according to Boyd.
That was in the 1400 block of Veterans Boulevard.
"The vehicle was in a bank parking lot when two marked patrol cars moved toward the parked vehicle, it quickly accelerated. The suspect vehicle struck one of the patrol vehicles, which led to a lengthy vehicle pursuit."
He says Navarre threw a gun out of the car. The chase went from Veterans and Bonnabel all the way to 32nd Street and Connecticut Street in Kenner near the Esplanade Mall.
"The suspect vehicle struck a tree," Boyd said. "Navarre was arrested without further incident."
Navarre was booked on multiple charges:
- Armed Robbery
- Simple Robbery
- Aggravated Criminal Damage
- Aggravated Flight from an Officer
- Aggravated Assault with a Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
