The Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office is investigating a traffic fatality.
"The driver, a 57-year-old female resident of Metairie, sustained numerous internal injuries during the crash," Captain Jason Rivarde said in a news release. "She was transported to a local hospital for treatment, but succumbed to her injuries this afternoon."
The crash happened Sunday night around 10:30pm.
"The decedent was driving a Toyota Avalon on Monticello Avenue in Metairie. It appears that she lost control of the vehicle after going over the railroad tracks near the intersection of Pope St. and Monticello Ave."
He says the vehicle struck a utility pole before traveling a short distance on its side. It came to rest on the levee.
"Toxicology tests are pending. The decedent's identity is being withheld pending the notification of her next of kin."
