A woman is dead after she was shot on the Westbank of Jefferson Parish, then the car used to take her to the hospital broke down over the Mississippi River.
"Shortly after 1:00 am, deputies were notified of a shooting victim on the Crescent City Connection who was inside a disabled vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle stated that the victim was shot on Maplewood and they were attempting to transport the victim to a hospital when the vehicle became disabled," JPSO Captain Jason Rivarde explained in an email.
He says they had earlier received reports of gunfire in Harvey, but could not find anyone who had been shot.
"At around 12:40 am, deputies were dispatched to a report of gunshots in the area of the 1200 block of Maplewood Drive in Harvey. Arriving deputies located ballistic evidence on scene, but no victim."
When help did arrive some 20 minutes later, it was too late.
"The victim, a 23-year-old New Orleans woman, was pronounced dead on the scene."
Rivarde says there is no motive or suspect.
