The Louisiana Department of Health says another 2,176 people have recovered from COVID-19 since last week. Total presumed recoveries now stand at 33,904. Another 234 cases are reported, totaling 43,050. Just six deaths reported since yesterday, 2,831 people have died. Hospitalized COVID-19 patients are up seven, at 582.
Gov. John Bel Edwards says he likes what he sees in the data.
"We're now two weeks removed from the Memorial Day weekend, and we have not seen the surge in cases or hospitalizations that could have come with that increased mobility and the contact that we saw happening across the state of Louisiana," said Edwards.
Edwards had other encouraging date.
"I was encouraged today by a new LSU survey showing that 62 percent of the people say that they either always or very often where face coverings when outside the home," Edwards said. "That's an increase from April when only 48 percent gave that same answer."
The governor said 76 percent of people LSU polled agreed wearing a mask is the responsible thing to do.
