West Coast and Gulf Ports that see a lot of containership traffic from China are instituting guidelines contained in a Marine Safety Information Bulletin sent out by the Coast Guard on Monday.

Any vessel that has visited China during its last five ports of call or 30-days must report to the Captain of the Port any crewmembers showing symptoms of Coronavirus.

Federal regulations state if any passengers or crew exhibiting symptoms of Coronavirus, or any deaths within 15 days, the CDC must be notified.

The failure to do so can result in a fine approaching 93-thousand dollars.

The Coast Guard is enacting protocols to ensure an outbreak of Coronavirus doesn't pop up at ports of entry.

West coast ports enacted protocols earlier this week.

More advanced measures at protecting cargo and crews of container ships are being readied if needed.
