The race for Jefferson Parish president is still quite a ways off, not until October, but is it beginning to pick up steam?
Former Jefferson Parish President John Young has already begun running ads in the hope of reclaiming the office.
Dr. Silas Lee says there is still a long way to go.
"The last thing you want to do is risk burnout among voters," Lee said. "Voters are distracted, they have other things that they're focusing on, and when you look at the cycle of an election, trying to maintain the interest of voters, it's quite often not beneficial to the candidate and it's very expensive."
Young also has the biggest war chest with more money than incumbent Mike Yenni or Cynthia Lee-Sheng, the daughter of the late Sheriff Harry Lee.
Yenni has not announced he is in for reelection.
"Expect movement in this campaign," Lee said. "Its still early and there is a lot of time to influence and most importantly consolidate the voters."
Lee says as far as Young having more money than Yenni or Lee-Sheng, while it is a good component to have, but you still have to appeal to the voters and have a vision.
