Louisiana broke though the 45,000 case numbers and kept going smashing through the 46,000 number and landing at 46,283.
The spike in numbers comes as New Orleans moved into Phase II of economic reopening.
Saturday the state announced 1,288 new cases confirmed
The state says the spike in numbers comes from backlog of tests which have finally come in.
Reportedly three labs with as many as 560-cases dating back to late April have reported their findings to the Louisiana Department of Health.
It is the fifth day in a row COVID-19 numbers have surpassed 400 cases in reporting.
Eight new deaths have been reported.
The number of hospitalizations is down, 542, down 7 from Friday while an additional 2 people are on ventilators bringing the count to 76.
