Hurricane, tropical storm, tropical depression, rainy mess Barry closed the MIssissippi River and the Port of New Orleans just temporarily. Cruise ships at sea arrived home in time for the port to reopen and the vessels to berth.
Carnival Glory returned to New Orleans on Sunday and Carnival Valor will arrive Monday as scheduled.
Meanwhile, the cruise picture is improving as Royal Caribbean's return to New Orleans launches in January when the Majesty of the Seas begins port calls.
The 880-foot ship will sail on seven day trips to Key West, Nassau and Royal Caribbean's private resort Perfect Day at Coco Cay. Perfect Day recently reopened in May after a $250-million renovation. The private island features a waterpark, ballon rides, and a private beach.
According to Travelpulse.com, Royal Caribbean is going all in on New Orleans planning year round sailings beginning in January. In the past Royal Caribbean ships operated seasonally from January through April.
