Louisiana State Police last month cited Louisiana State Senator Karen Carter Peterson for being on the grounds of L'auberge casino in Baton Rouge after having been forbidden from the property, WWL-TV reports.
The casino's management would not comment to the TV station on the circumstances that led to Peterson being banned from the establishment. Neither would state police.
Peterson is also the chairwoman of the Louisiana Democratic Party, and the Vice Chair of Civic Engagement and Voter Participation in the national Democratic Party.
News of Peterson's citation comes just days after the Louisiana Republican Party's executive director, Andrew Bautsch, was cited on charges of battery, trespass, and resisting an officer after allegedly refusing to leave the Pontchartrain Hotel when asked to do so.
Louisiana Democratic Party Executive Director Stephen Handwerk said of that incident, "This is an unfortunate instance that needs to be looked into."
