Cops in New Orleans say children with guns, committing crimes is on the rise.
"We have identified juveniles becoming more brazen," Police Chief Shaun Ferguson said.
Juvenile crime hit very close to home for the City Councilwoman in New Orleans East.
"My father was held at gunpoint by a bunch of kids, they took his car," Councilwoman Cyndi Nguyen announced on a Facebook chat. "A lot of these juveniles feel like they own the street."
She says it happened at two o' clock in the afternoon just half a block from Mary Queen of Vietnam Church.
Nguyen says she wants a holistic approach to finding ways to help children that become violent criminals.
"We've gotta to figure out a way... to help those that are on the wrong track."
She says jail is a last resort.
"Locking them up is not going to help us," Nguyen insisted. "We need to help them, provide them alternatives."
The councilwoman acknowledged, however, that all violent children can't be helped.
"If they can't get it, we are going to have to move to the next step guys."
