One of Louisiana’s top health experts Dr. Alex Billioux announces he is stepping down at the end of the month.
As The Advocate reports, the assistant secretary for the Louisiana Department of Health’s Office of Public Health announced to his staff that he will resign so he can spend more time with his family.
"We know it was a very tough decision for him to make, and he will be sorely missed at LDH," said spokesperson Aly Neel, according to the newspaper.
Billioux has been by Governor John Bel Edward’s side and at every one of his press conferences providing insightful explanations of the coronavirus since the start of the pandemic.
This comes as Governor Edwards is poised to make a decision on whether or not Louisiana moves into Phase 3 of the pandemic recovery. Billioux’s successor has not yet been announced.
