Edwards declaring a state of emergency ahead of tropical threat

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards says whatever develops in the Gulf appears to be headed for Louisiana.

"We know that this is going to be a Louisiana event now, in all probability," he said at a news conference. "(That is) based upon confluence of various models and information we are getting out of the National Weather Center."

Edwards is declaring a state of emergency today.

He says the entire state could be dealing with heavy rains Friday and Saturday with up to 15 inches of rain in about 24 hours.

"That is a short time period for such intense rain," Edward noted. "Heavy rains could be experienced anywhere in the state."

The governor says more specific details will be known over the next couple of days.
