Today is Election Day in 38 parishes. Polls opened at 7 am and close at 8 pm. Secretary of State Kyle Ardoin encourages everyone to vote today and he also wants to remind voters due to COVID-19 some polling places have been relocated.

Among the major issues to be decided today is the fate of East Jefferson General Hospital.

East Bank Jefferson Parish residents will deliver and up or down vote on whether to sell the aging public hospital to LCMC Health for $90-million.

LCMC is promising to put money into renovating the aging structure, retire the debt the hospital owes and fully fund the hospital’s retirement program.

Parish President Cynthia Lee-Sheng says

“We want this hospital to remain in our community as we know it.  And getting part of a larger network, a very sound network, is going to help us deliver the medical services our citizens are so used to getting from that hospital.”
