A federal investigation continues to swirl around now former Jefferson Parish Councilman Chris Roberts. He was the council's longest serving member up until yesterday evening, and is apparently cooperating with federal prosecutors.
Roberts has been described as a political powerhouse on the Westbank.
Political analyst Clancy DuBos says he has a good idea on how this unfolded.
''It would be part of a negotiated plea for, say, tax evasion, and as part of the deal you have to resign,'' DuBos said.
Cooperation can often avoid embarrassing indictments against Roberts.
"The way this is going down, you gotta show good faith, you've got to resign first, then we know you're serious about this, we will issue the bill of information and at some point you will plead,'' said DuBos
This could be an even larger investigation Roberts is cooperating with. He's been under investigation for about two years.
Politically, the remaining council members will have to appoint someone to the council position left vacant, until voters pick a replacement.
