
A Louisiana man who officials say caused a crash that fatally injured his 5-year-old son his heading to prison.
55-year-old Toney Gallo pleaded guilty Monday to negligent homicide, according to The Advocate. Court documents stated, the boy suffered head trauma from the crash that occurred in March of 2018 crash, when Gallo lost control and ran off the road hitting a barrier made of concrete in Tangipahoa Parish.
Investigators determined Gallo had been driving with a blood alcohol level of 0.231, which is nearly three times the legal limit. It was his third DWI offense.
He was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
The 5-year-old was hospitalized after the crash but died about 2 months later, according to court documents.
Gallo was supposed to go to trial Monday. He was sentenced immediately after entering the guilty plea.
Gallo will receive credit for time served.
