
After a seemingly quiet time as New Orleans and the region adjusted to the COVID-19 shelter in place orders, violence has exploded on the streets yet again.
Following the shooting of seven people this week, a man was found gunned down in the street in the Fifth District.
Investigators say the man was found near death on Polk and Canal Boulevard in the Lakeview area.
At around 9:38 p.m., NOPD Fifth District officers responded to a call of shots fired.
Upon arrival, officers discovered one male suffering from a gunshot wound(s).
Life saving measures were performed, however the victim succumbed to his injuries.
EMS pronounced him dead at the scene.
No further information is available at this time.
The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the victim upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.
