Homicide investigators are working a murder in the Fifth District.
NOPD says a deadly confrontation took place just after 6pm near the intersection of Mandeville and North Derbigny.
Officers dispatched to the scene were responding to a report of aggravated battery, when they arrived they found the victim suffering with a gunshot wound.
The male victim was transported to a local hospital where he later died from his wound.
Detectives are gathering evidence and information to identify the suspect and motive for the killing.
