Matt Branch, a former LSU offensive lineman/tight end, is fighting for his life after being seriously injured in a hunting accident in Mississippi. A GoFundMe has been established to help his family with expenses.
Branch was duck hunting in Eagle Lake, Mississippi, when a shotgun accidentally discharged, striking him in the left leg, according to the GoFundMe page. The severity of the injury forced doctors to amputate a portion of his leg.
Per the GoFundMe page, "Normally, sustaining these injuries while in such a remote geographic area would be life ending for most any human being, but miraculously Matt has survived. He currently remains in critical condition in ICU and is fighting to recover."
Branch played for LSU from 2009 to 2011 after redshirting his freshman year in 2008. He played in a total of 28 games as both a guard and tight end before injuries cut his playing career short following the 2011 season.
