The last festivals that had been holding out hope of still somehow happening in the fall, have thrown in the towel.

"Plans to host French Quarter Festival in October are no longer moving forward," French Quarter Festivals Inc. said in a statement. "It is with great sadness that we announce the cancellation."

The festival's website now has been changed to instead promote next year's event, now reading, "FRENCH QUARTER FESTIVAL 2021: APRIL 8-11"

Organizers had hoped to move from April of this year to October.

New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell had previously announced she was not supporting holding any large gatherings in the city until sometime in 2021.

The organization also says that Satchmo Summer Fest has been canceled for 2020.
