Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards on Saturday requested a federal disaster declaration ahead of anticipated landfalls of potential hurricanes Marco and Laura, both along the southeastern Louisiana coast near New Orleans.

The governor on Friday declared a state of emergency.

"This is unlike anything we have seen, with two hurricanes expected to impact our state nearly back to back," said Edwards. "This may mean that people will have to shelter in place for more than 72 hours and that there may not be time to do things like restore lost power between the two storms."

Edwards will hold two media briefings tomorrow to update the public on storm preparations.
