Gov. Edwards vetoes bill aimed at lowering auto insurance

Governor John Bel Edwards on Friday vetoed a bill aimed at lowering auto insurance in Louisiana.

Senate Bill 418, the Omnibus Premium Reduction Act made its way to the governor’s desk but as The Times Picayune | New Orleans Advocate reports, had wording in it to found to be “faulty”.

The Bill was aimed at reducing the volume of litigation insurance companies claim is the cause of rising auto insurance in the state.

According to nola.com the bill was poorly worded which mistakenly required plaintiffs with minor injuries and who have their own medical insurance, to receive thousands of dollars more for their injuries than was needed. Governor Edwards said the bill was “neither a compromise nor is it a mandate to decrease rates.”

The Senate Bill was among eight bills rejected by the governor.

Among the 68 bills signed where House Bill 334 which allows conceal carry guns to be brought into places of worship, and Senate Bill 130 which sets a Nov 3rd date for people to vote on sports betting in their parish.
