Louisiana today for the first time reported how many people have recovered from COVID-19: 14,927.

Governor John Bel Edwards today said those numbers are estimates.

"Just so you understand, a person is presumed to be recovered if it has been more than 14 days since he or she tested positive and he or she is not currently in the hospital or deceased," said Edwards. "If the hospital status is unknown, it has to be more than 21 days since he or she tested positive."

Still, he said he finds the information to be encouraging.

"I'm really glad to get to that number, because for a long, long time, I just knew of one recovery, and that was secretary of Transportation Shawn Wilson," said Edwards. "I'm very pleased that he did recover."
