Recently passed legislation favorable to New Orleans' tourism and infrastructure efforts have been signed into law.

Governor Edwards was in New Orleans Friday to sign bills increasing revenue for repairing the city's streets, drainage, water systems and other infrastructure.

The measures include a 1 percent increase in the tax on New Orleans hotel rooms and a planned increase in taxes on short-term rental units.

TRhe governor also signed a measure to extend Harrah's contract to operate the state's only land-based casino in New Orleans for 30 years. An earlier effort to lengthen the contract failed last year amid questions about Harrah's contributions to the state.

Friday's signing event took place at the Sewerage & Water Board of New Orleans, which is responsible for street drainage and public water systems.
