Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards today said April 15 is too early to speculate on what football season will be like if the coronavirus pandemic is still active when LSU and the Saints return to the gridiron.
"I'm just not prepared at all to go down that road to talk about what the situation will be this fall," said Edwards. "I am prepared to say that if those things happen and fans are able to participate, it's still not going to look exactly the same."
The governor said there would have to be precautions to protect public health, although what those precautions might be, he could only speculate.
"I'm thinking out loud here: I don't know if they can sell every other seat, every third seat, I don't know if they're going to have to try to figure out different ways to get people in and out of the games so they're not all piled up on one another at one time."
The governor said there may even be temperature checks or requirements that fans wear mask.
One thing Edwards said he could say for certain: if he can be in the stadium, he'll be there to cheer on the LSU Fighting Tigers as they defend their national championship.
