Consumers will spend close to 9 billion dollars on Halloween this season

Halloween spending is big business.  

With just 4 days to go before the trick-or-treaters come out at dusk, consumers love to spend money on Halloween.   

Elyria Kemp Associate Professor of Marketing at UNO says its a day many New Orleanians adore.   

"Statistics say we spend about 86 dollars in general on Halloween, that includes the costumes, candy, decorations, so it is a multi-billion dollar business," Kemp said.

25 dollars of that are spent on candy alone.  

The National Retail Federation says that consumers will spend Americans will spend about 8.8 billion dollars on Halloween and that includes costumes, candy, decorations, as well as greeting cards.

"Consumers are even starting to dress their pets up, so that's become big as well," according to Kemp.
