Hurricane Hanna

Hurricane Hanna strengthened to 90 mph maximum sustained winds before making landfall at Padre Island, Texas, late Saturday afternoon.  

The center of the storm crossed the island about 15 miles north of Port Mansfield.

Meanwhile, Gonzalo, the Atlantic's other named storm, has degraded to a remnant tropical low. Gonzalo had entered an area of the Caribbean known for conditions hostile to tropical weather systems.

Farther to the east, a tropical wave several hundred miles southwest of Cabo Verde Islands is producing a broad area of cloudiness and disorganized showers and thunderstorms. 

"The wave is expected to move westward at about 15 mph during the next several days," said Stewart. "Tropical depression is likely form early next week when the system reaches the central tropical Atlantic."
