Speaking before the New Orleans City Council Wednesday, Chief Administative Officer Gilbert Montano said: "It's getting very, very, very, very expensive."  

He skirted going into details replying, "Let's just say, without being exact on the amount, approximately millions of dollars.  


According to WWL-TV, the city has enough extra cash on hand to contend with the collapse: "Right now we're working with a little bit over a $5-million surplus," Budget Chair Jared Brossett said.  

Brossett did say the city not in danger of "blowing the 2019 budget." 

Meanwhile, the city is in the midst of reviewing the proposed $722-million budget from Mayor LaToya Cantrell.  

The collapse has reportedly add huge, unexpected costs that will have to be dealt with.  

The city has repeatedly reiterated the buildings owners are responsible for reimbursing the city for the money spent to mitigate the disaster.
