It appears the demolition of the crippled Hard Rock construction cranes did not take place exactly as planned.
Shortly after the attempted implosion, pieces of one of the cranes continued to hang over Canal Street. This is not what had been intended.
Another piece, from the crane further down Rampart Street, appears to have impaled itself into the ground.
For minutes after the explosion, debris continued to fall from the damaged structure.
