The sports betting battle in Baton Rouge now includes hijacking and hostage taking.

The author of the bill to legalize wagering on sports in Louisiana makes no bones about it.

"It's what's commonly referred to as hijacking," State Senator Danny Martiny admitted. "I amended... the sports betting language into the fantasy sports language."

By combining the bills, Martiny hopes to get his measure approved despite a House committee striking down the proposal.

"I'm not gonna tell you we're running and gunning," he said. "We're still alive."

The Metairie Republic stressed, "Nothing is dead until six o' clock on Thursday."

That's when the session must end.

Supporters of fantasy sports, are crying foul.

Fairness for Fantasy Sports Spokesman Ryan Berni said, "Really it's being held hostage at this point by Baton Rouge politics."

He is calling on lawmakers to respect the fact that 47 parishes voted to approve legal fantasy sports.

“It’s really important that in the next 72 hours that people get to their senses and pass and uphold the will of the voters,” said Berni.
