Hotel business continues to grow with major properties in play

New hotels are on the way to downtown New Orleans, as developers continue to see demand for more rooms.

Billionaire Richard Branson just broke ground on a downtown hotel, the reconfiguration of the World Trade Center into a Four Seasons is coming along, and now the Convention Center is ready to get started on its 1,200-room project.

"I think it's a good indication of the strength of the industry," said Dean John Williams of the UNO Center for Hospitality Research.

Williams says there are more people wanting overnight stays in New Orleans, and at all times of the year.

"All the segments seem to be doing well, whether they're luxury upscale or the midscale," he said.
