Houma Police say someone shot at officers who were out doing a Hurricane Barry damage assessment this afternoon.
"Shortly after 2pm Houma Police were in the area of West Street conducting damage assessments as a result of Hurricane Barry," the department said in a news release. "While doing so, officers heard several shots, some of which were extremely close whizzing by them. Officers observed a burgundy sedan heading in their direction shooting, which resulted in officers returning fire at the vehicle."
No officers were hurt.
Police say they learned a short time later that a man had been dropped off at a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound. Suspecting it could be related to the gunfire exchange earlier in the day, Houma Police notified Louisiana State Police, who is now handling the investigation.
