Is mask wearing going to become mandatory across Louisiana?

Will covering your mouth and nose in public become mandatory statewide in Louisiana?

Governor John Bel Edwards is not taking it off the table.

"We are going to look at everything that we might need to do to get control of the numbers as best we can, to get off of the trajectory we're on.  Again the thing that you cannot let happen, you cannot lose the capacity of the hospitals to deliver critical care."

Edwards says federal government is urging states to require mask wearing in COVID-19 hot spots.

"The White House Coronavirus Task Force  is asking that we consider mandatory mask usage, not necessarily statewide."

He says the request was for areas of the state that meet certain criteria.

Edwards explained, "We are going to be looking at it."

Either way, the governor insisted, "At the end of the day we need people to do a better job of wearing their masks."

We will hear live from the governor at 2:30 this afternoon on WWL.com and on WWLam and WWLfm.
