The Chartes Street landmark Le Richelieu Hotel has a new operator and a new chapter in its storied history.

The complex of buildings at the corner of Chartes and Barracks Streets, on the backside of the French Quarter, have been homes, businesses, a hospital, school, macaroni factory, furniture factory, an apartment building and, since 1969, Le Richelieu Hotel.

The 90 room hotel features 16 suites and a full size apartment-suite for VIP's with a dining room, den, living room, full kitchen and a marble lined steam room.

Le Richelieu is the first to join the rebranded J Collection, formerly the New Orleans Hotel Collection, which also owns or operates a myriad of large and small hotels across the region, including The Jung Hotel & Residences, Hotel Mazarin, Hotel Le Marais, Dauphine Orleans, Melrose Mansion, Audubon Cottages, The Whitney Hotel, Bourbon Orleans Hotel, Maison Dupuy Hotel, Historic Streetcar Inn, Chateau Hotel, Hotel Royal, French Quarter Suites, New Orleans Courtyard Hotel and the Crowne Plaza New Orleans Airport.

According to New Orleans City Business.com, the hotel is named for Cardinal Armand Jean du Plessis, Duke of Richelieu and Louis XIII’s chief minister in 1624.
