Jefferson Parish President Mike Yenni today announced results of an investigation into allegations of mismanagement and inappropriate behavior at the animal shelter.  The probe led to the termination of three leaders, including the shelter's director Robin Beaulieu.

Yenni says the kill rate of the Jefferson Parish animal shelter now is only 18 percent but that's still too high.  He wants the kill rate to be 0 percent.

"And the only way that's going to happen is the right management at the top," Yenni said.

He said that's why he fired Beaulieu and two other top level managers.

"Employees that were terminated through this investigation were found of some guilt, having done something that caused problems in the shelter," Yenni added.   The Parish president said that animals that could have been adopted were put down and an outside veterinarian euthanized 4 dogs in a matter that was not consistent with their protocols.

Yenni offered limited details due to personnel rules, but did say parts of the probe were turned over to the sheriff's office for criminal investigation.
