The economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic will hit everyone, not just the people who get sick. Jefferson Parish's business leaders are trying to work around it.

Amazon's focus on delivery isn't just the wave of the future -- it's now an essential lifeline to commerce, and Todd Murphy, president of the Jefferson Parish Chamber, says they're trying to get as many businesses in on it as possible.


"We're going to work with this council and with this parish president to get very creative on how we can work our magic on opening everything up for delivery," said Murphy.  "Whatever we can deliver, we're going to try to deliver to the homes."

Jefferson Parish President Cynthia Lee Sheng said local businesses are the backbone of the economy.

"These are the people who are the cornerstone of our community," she said, "and we want to make sure we help them get through this time."

She recommended taking advantage of to-go, delivery and drive through dining options at local restaurants.
