It's an historic day in Jefferson Parish, when Cynthia Lee Sheng is sworn in as parish president.
Cynthia Lee Sheng will become the first woman to serve as president of Jefferson Parish when she's sworn in this morning. It comes about a year and a half after New Orleans swore in its first female mayor.
“Voters are far more willing now to disregard gender of candidates and look at who has the best credentials and who has the best message,” said political analyst Clancy DuBos.
DuBos says Cynthia Lee Sheng had a reputation on the parish council as someone who worked well with her fellow council members. It also doesn't hurt that she has the political legacy of her father, the late Sheriff Harry Lee.
“She got her start thanks to her dad, a beloved late sheriff, but she quickly established her own credentials, and her own identity, politically,” said DuBos.
