Jefferson Parish teachers rally against schools reopening in August

Teachers in Jefferson Parish are not happy about students returning to school in August because they say it is too soon and unsafe to resume in-class learning.

On Thursday, the Jefferson Parish Federation of Teachers and School Employees stood with concerned Jefferson Parish school teachers to voice their demands for a safe reopen of parish schools.

Education Consultant Dr. Ashonta Wyatt She says they are willing to strike if Jefferson Parish School System does not delay the school start date until there has been at least 14 days of declining COVID-19 cases in the parish.

“Understand that education does not work without teachers,” said Dr. Wyatt. “Education does not work without children. Its time for the parents to stand up in support of these teachers and say ‘your life matters so I’m going to keep my son home’.”
